Brentwood Historical Society

The Brentwood Borough Historical Society was formed on September 18, 1991 by Gerry F. Sullivan, Sonya Vernau (Borough Council President), Audrey Iacone, and Loraine Russ with the aim of building and preserving an accurate record of the Brentwood community from its earliest days to, and through, the present.

Over the years since its formation the Society has collected and organized thousands of images, objects, maps, family histories and other documents. It has published multiple books and articles about the history of the Borough and its citizens. The Society led the drive to create the World War II Memorial, dedicated in 2002, which stands on the grounds of the Slater Funeral Home on Brownsville Road; organized the celebration of the Borough’s Centennial in 2015, and sponsors the annual All Borough Yard sale which is held the first Saturday of August each year. Working with Borough Council, the Society provided images, artifacts, historical information and context for the “Hall of History” in the newly renovated Civic Center.
